If you plan on diving with us for a few days, a trip to the area of Contreras may be something to consider as well. Keep in mind that due to the depth of the dives and the possibility of very strong currents, we only accept divers with MORE THAN 30 DIVES AND RECENT DIVE EXPERIENCE on these trips. Also, here we dive with NITROX in order to make the most of it. We can offer the full course or the “Dive Today” option if you do not hold a Nitrox certification.
Contreras is a set of islands within the national park that is about 1.45 – 2 hours away from Santa Catalina. So what’s different? These sites are even more remote and meeting another diver, or even seeing another boat is very rare. Many of the sites are covered in beautiful fan coral that cannot be found anywhere else in the park. One can find massive schools of snapper, barracuda and bigeye jacks, huge long-tail stingrays, eagle rays, and in the right season (March to April), one can even be lucky to encounter schools of hammerheads. For safety reasons, we try to leave for these trips as early as possible, so we ask divers to meet at the dive shop at 7.00am. We head out as soon as possible.
